Dear readers
The information presented in this newsletter truly showcase the openness, the scope and the diversity of the actions of our Association.
As you know, our Technical Committees organize their working meetings and seminars at a steady pace, since there are almost two PIARC meetings every month around the world! This month we report on a workshop organized by the Association in Japan on disaster management, a seminar in Bolivia on rural roads and low traffic, and discuss upcoming seminars, workshops or conferences in Chile, Germany and Australia.
A guiding principle: these PIARC events are organized with the main local stakeholders, so as to ensure that they meet local expectations and concerns. Indeed, such partnership work is at the heart of the strategy of the World Road Association. We intend the concerns of our members, i.e. issues related to roads and road transport, to be shared and discussed with the many partners in the world of transport, whether they come from the road or from other modes, from the public sector or the business world. It is in the same spirit of openness and sharing that the President of the Association intervenes at key moments in the transport calendar: the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, the WCPAM conference in Milan, the Baltic Conference of Roads in Tallinn.
Please save these many dates in your diaries, and do not hesitate to come and talk with the representatives of the World Road Association, so that together we can deliver progress at the service of our members, on the path to integrated and sustainable transport.

Climate change has now become a global issue of concern and it is for this reason that PIARC has incorporated it into the strategic themes and technical committees for the term 2012-2015. Higher levels of carbon dioxide as part of greenhouse gas emissions are being released resulting in heat being trapped in the atmosphere, which over time will result in a rise...

Good performance information is an essential part of good management in any organisation. It assists in ensuring accountability, transparency and aids decision making across the board on a range of activities undertaken by road and transport administrations. Organisations have been collecting information about their own performance and their impacts on society for many years. In recent times the call for this information has become even more important as we seek to improve our own performance and demonstrate the creation of public value deriving from road and transport administrations.
