Dear colleagues and friends, It is a great pleasure for me to share the main decisions that have been taken by the Association recently. I will start with our governing instances, which we have renewed as planned, after an executive cycle that the COVID crisis had forced us to extend by one year. Our friend Nazir Alli will be the next President of PIARC, starting in January 2022. We remember that he was the organiser of the remarkable World Road Congress held in Durban in 2003. Above all, the symbolic significance of this election must be stressed. Nazir will be the first President from the African continent, and only the third who is not from a rich country. RODEO V4, the
competition to prove your best driving skills on winter maintenance vehicles
13 – 14 September 2021 For the fifth
year, the Slovak Road Association, PIARC Slovak National Committee, organized
the "Rodeo V4" event, which took place at the Slovakia Ring in
Orechová Potôň. This competition about
driving skills on winter maintenance vehicles (spreaders with a superstructure
and a mounted blade) is enjoying growing popularity among road administration
drivers. It was attended by competitors from partner road companies from the
Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

It is still possible to register and take part in the free virtual
course organized by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF) with the support of
PIARC. It provides an opportunity to learn techniques to develop planning
and management skills associated with strategic decision-making processes,
as well as the design and implementation of public policies for the development
of road infrastructure. 40-hour virtual course with access to content at any time.

2021 is now open! The CEDR (Conference
of European Road Directors) has just launched its 2021 call for two research
programmes: Climate
Change Resilience and
Remote Condition Monitoring of Physical Road Assets. CEDR's 2021 call for
