By many indicators, the XVI World Congress on Winter Service and Road Resilience was a real success. Nearly 800 participants, 50 technical sessions and 9 poster sessions, based on the work of the PIARC Technical Committees and the international call for papers, 227 selected papers, 10 foresight sessions organized with our partner organizations, 11 countries represented at the Ministers' session, etc. The content of these sessions was of an excellent level, as evidenced by the 5 papers recognized by one of the PIARC Prizes that were awarded during the Congress. Furthermore, we published the new update of our "Snow and Ice Databook” compendium ", and everyone was able to experience the richness and diversity of Canadian territories through virtual technical tours. A big thank you to our Technical Committees, participants, sponsors and exhibitors, and of course to Transport Canada and the City of Calgary [...]

New Call for Proposals to conduct the “Social equity and social accessibility” PIARC Special Project! 

The work to be deliverd should address the notions of social equity (are all segments of the population served fairly) and social accessibility (are all geographic areas accessible to all who need it in an affordable way) applied to road infrastructure and road transport. This research will seek to capture and analyse the current status quo in terms of how road authorities are currently managing accessibility of their road infrastructure, whilst implementing this in the most socially equitable manner possible.
The call is now open! Submit your proposal in English by 21st March 2022.

The new edition of PIARC’s Snow and Ice Databook is now available! Download it to get the latest data on winter road service management! 

The latest edition of PIARC’s Snow and Ice Databook 2022 (SIDB) collects the experience of 21 countries managing their winter service and it is now available on the PIARC website for free download. The aim of the Databook is to share data from the different participating countries in order to improve strategies and promote better practices across the globe.

Do you want to know the latest PIARC news on infrastructure resilience for roads in Climate Change? 

PIARC attended the final Conference for the FORESEE Project, presenting its work on infrastructure resilience in a session with UNECE and European Commission among others. PIARC has been part of the external group of Stakeholders Reference Group with experts from several Technical Committees. The results of the recent Calgary Congress, which included resilience as one of the two main themes of the Congress, were presented, thus contributing to the global outreach of PIARC and Calgary Congress.
