PIARC is one of the premier organizations in the world that society looks to for leadership for matters related to road infrastructure and road transport. The strength of PIARC derives from the combined knowledge and experience of over 1000 technical experts from 124 member governments around the world, including High Income Countries (HICs), and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The Association creates value by convening these technical experts in multiple fora to exchange ideas and develop technical solutions that are responsive to the needs of their respective countries.

Prague 2023: The call for papers is still open, don’t forget to submit your abstract! 

Deadline: 26 August 2022

For the 27^th edition of the World Road Congress, to be held in Prague from 2 to 6 of October 2023, PIARC launched a call for papers on 49 topics.

All international road and road transport experts are invited to submit abstracts by the 26^th of August 2022. These abstracts will be reviewed and the authors of the accepted abstracts will be invited to write a full paper, which will also be reviewed and then published, thus contributing to the sessions of the congress's sessions.

Articles should present case studies, research results and/or practical experiences.

PIARC organised its first webinar on gender inclusion! 

7 June

This month was held a webinar on “Gender inclusion in the transport sector”, organised by the Promotion of gender inclusion and diversity Team of PIARC and the Technical Committee 1.1 "Performance of Transport Administrations".

Together with other organisations such as ITF and TRB, this webinar highlighted the importance of actively working towards gender equality both in terms of staffing and human resources as well as adding a gender perspective to the technical professions.

PIARC was present at the ICMPA in Chicago! 

7-10 June 2022, Chicago (USA)

The 11th edition of the International Conference on Managing Pavement Assets took place in Chicago, from 7 to 10 June 2022.

The Chairs of Technical Committees 3.3 “Asset Management” and 4.1 “Pavements”, Gerardo Flintsch and Margo Briessinck, led the discussions in two sessions of the Conference. They discussed pavement asset management and pavement monitoring technology using Big Data.

International Seminar Online dedicated to mobility in rural areas 

21-23 June 2022, Paraguay

Technical Committee 2.2 “Accessibility and Mobility in Rural Areas”, together with the Road Association of Paraguay (APC) and the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), organised a webinar on “Rural roads, connectivity and accessibility for development” from 21 to 23 June 2022.

For 3 days, the participants were able to share information regarding various topics such as accessibility, mobility, road safety and gender inclusion in rural areas, as well as the financing of rural roads.

Many meetings organised by our Technical Committees have animated the month! 

Our Technical Committees (TC) and Task Forces (TF) are actively working towards the end of the 2020-2023 work cycle.

Therefore, the TC 3.1 “Road Safety” gathered in Slovenia on 7-8 June, the TC 3.3 “Asset Management” held its meeting in the USA from 8 to 10 June, and the TC 3.4 “Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport” met online from 13 to 17 June.

All of these meetings enabled valuable discussions and significant progress in the development of the reports that will be published by PIARC.

The new Communications Commission held its first meeting 

13 June

The new Communications Commission held its first meeting and discussed the development of the next communication and marketing plan among others.

This meeting gave the opportunity to present the latest activities that had been carried out, and also to prepare a first overview of the communication strategy. Everyone had the opportunity to express their opinion regarding the organisational objectives of the Strategic Plan 2024-2027.

Italian National Committee’s webinar on "Improvement opportunities and perspectives for road safety on the South-Eastern Europe" 

21 June

ROADPOL, the network of European traffic police forces, and PIARC Italy, the National Italian Committee of World Road Association, wants to consolidate and enhance the knowledge of traffic police force and road operators in South-Eastern Europe.

With this in mind, they jointly organised a webinar on road safety in South-Eastern Europe.

The Deputy Secretary General of PIARC, Robin Sébille, attended the event in order to introduce the Association to the many participants.

European Snow Plough Championship 

11-13 October, Tulln (Austria)

Organised by the Austrian National Committee, the first European Snow Plough Championship will take place in Tulln (Austria), from 11 to 13 October 2022.

Past President Claude Van Rooten will attend this unique event on behalf of the President of PIARC and will give a welcome speech at the “Winter Service Talks“.

At these talks, outstanding experts from Germany, France, Hungary, Latvia, Sweden and Austria will report on recent developments in winter service and road maintenance, accompanied by an equipment presentation.
