PIARC together with its partners, the South African Road Federation (SARF) and the International Road Federation (IRF), held the 7th Regional Conference for Africa in Cape Town. This global event, with over 700 delegates in attendance including exhibitors from 18th to 20th October, was organized by the SARF which by all accounts was a resounding success. PIARC was an integral part of the programme through the participation of its two Technical Committees, namely TC 2.2 “Accessibility and Mobility in Rural Areas” and TC 3.1 “Road Safety” and its International Seminar on rural roads and road safety. >> Read the full editorial

2-5 October, Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) The
Transportation Association of Canada (TAC)’s annual conference is the largest
national gathering of transportation professionals in Canada. This was the
first in-person conference since the beginning of the pandemic. This year’s
conference theme was “Changing ways for our changing climate”. PIARC
Canadian National Committee (CNC) in collaboration with TAC’s Climate Change
Integrated Committee organized a session for the TAC conference, aligned with its
theme, to showcase PIARC and international work on climate change. The session
was entitled “PIARC and Canadian Challenges in Developing Road System
Resilience” and was moderated by David Hein, Vice Chair of CNC, who is also a
member of Technical Committee 3.3 “Asset Management”. The session
included 6 presentations by transportation and environment professionals from
across Canada where they presented their findings on topics related to climate
change vis-à-vis road resiliency including those in Northern Canada followed by
discussions and Q&A.
