microtexture

  • Theme : Operations Road Surface Characteristics
  • Definition : Surface irregularities of a road pavement with horizontal dimensions ranging between 0 and 0.5 mm and vertical dimensions between 0 and 0.2 mm. Note: microtexture is related to the asperities of the coarse aggregate, the sand particles and the road surface in contact with the rubber of tyres. It makes the surface feel more or less harsh but is normally too small to be observed by the eye.
