Sustainable Maintenance of Rural Roads

Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), 10-12 March 2011

This PIARC international seminar is organized jointly by the Bolivian Administration of Roads (ABC) and the World Road Association Technical Committee A4 Road Systems and Accessibility to Rural Areas with the support of the Roads Directors Council of Iberia and Ibero-America (DIRCAIBEA).

The main topics of the seminar are:

  • Bolivia's experience in road policy and road management (policies, coordination);
  • Best practice in the development and sustainability of rural roads (context of decisions, planning);
  • Framework and pre-requisites for implementation of maintenance (planning, funding, organization, maintenance contracts);
  • Community participation in rural roads maintenance;
  • Sustainable rural roads: future prospects;


The official language of the seminar will be Spanish with simultaneous translation into English.
