International Seminar "Disaster & Risk Management for Roads"
07-08 November 2018, Hanoi (Vietnam)
This international seminar was co-organized by the Technical Committees A.3 "Risk Management" and E.3 "Disaster Management" of the World Road Association (PIARC). The aim of the seminar was to exchange and disseminate the latest, national and international management technology for improving risk management in project and organization, and resilience process for disaster. In order to achieve this goal, national and international expertise on risk and disaster management from public authorities, private companies and academic sectors met together at Hanoi.

Summary of the Seminar
The two-day seminar consisted of four keynote presentations, eight technical sessions and panel discussion with 120 participants including experts from governments, highway companies and the private sectors both from Vietnam and abroad.
During the seminar, several topics related to wide variety aspect of risk and disaster management for roads were discussed including international experiences with presentations from Australia, Austria, Czech, Denmark, Greece, Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Japan, and Slovenia.
The local participants were mainly from the district road engineers who are in charge of risk and disaster management in their districts. There were a lot of hot and practical questions from the audience. Among the wide variety discussion generated during the seminar, most of the discussion was payed to the importance of organizational risk management, project risk management, disaster response management, and mitigation management. This reflected the experience of recent risk management and disaster management practices.
