International Seminar Risk and Emergency Management for Roads
11-13 november 2010, Beijing (China)
International Seminar organized in cooporation by PIARC Technical Committee C.3 "Managing Operation Risk in Road Operations" and the Research Institute of the Highway Ministry of Transport in China.
The call for papers seeks submissions which address one or more of the following seminar session themes:
- Introduction of risk and emergency management theory and techniques in the road sector ;
- Best practices in risk management associated with natural and man-made disasters and climate change in the road sector ;
- Best practices in contingency planning and emergency response to natural and man-made disasters and climate change in the road sector ;
- Social acceptance of risks and their perceptions in road-related activities.
Participants of this international seminar shared approaches that have been used to evaluate the risks associated with natural disasters, climate change, man-made disasters and security threats.
The discussions dealt:
- Strategies that are applied to reduce or mitigate the risks associated with these events ;
- Identify best practice ;
- Ananlyse relevant techniques ;
- Study the factors affecting social reaction to risks in road-related activities ;
- Methods that are used to measure people's acceptance of risks.
It is also an objective of the seminar ot assist road authorities to efficiently and effectively undertake risk management.
