International workshop "Disaster management and resilience for road infrastructure"

This international workshop was organized by the World Road Association (PIARC) TCTechnical Committee E.3 "Disaster Management", sponsored by Transportation Research Board (TRB) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and in cooperation with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Summary of the Workshop
The aim of the workshop was to exchange and disseminate the latest, national and international management technology for improving resilience process for disaster. In order to achieve this goal, national and international expertise on disaster management from public authorities, and private companies met together at Irvine.
The one-day workshop consisted of one keynote presentation, three technical sessions with 25 participants including experts from governments, highway companies and the private sectors both from USA and abroad.
During the workshop, several topics related to wide variety aspect of disaster management for roads were discussed including international experiences on the subject with presentations from Austria, Czech, Mexico, Japan, and USA.
The local participants were mainly from the department of California. Among the wide variety discussion generated during the workshop, most of the discussion was payed to the importance of financial disaster risk management, pre and post disaster response management, and disaster mitigation management. This reflected the experience of recent disaster management practices.
