In order to provide a platform to facilitate technical discussions and debates on disaster and risk management in road operations and, in particular, to establish and implement emergency and rescue plans, the World Road Association (PIARC) Technical Committees A.3 "Risk Management" and E.3 "Disaster Management" are organizing an International Seminar on Disaster and Risk Management for Roads.

This event is co-organized by the Directorate for Roads of Viet Nam (DRVN), the University of Transport and Communications (UTC, Hanoi), Viet Nam Road and Bridge Association (VIBRA) and the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) in cooperation with the World Bank (WB). It will bring together representatives of administrations and organisations as well as industry experts and researchers from many countries.

The conference will be held in Vietnam, at Daewoo Hotel in Hanoi, from November 7-8, 2018. In addition to opening and closing ceremonies, the program will include eight sessions including discussions and a technical tour of the TânV? Bridge -L?ch Huy?n - H?i Phòng on November 9, 2018.

The themes of the sessions will cover:

• Introduction of risk and disaster management theory and techniques in the road sector
• Best practices in risk management associated with natural and man-made disasters and climate change in the road sector
• Best practices in contingency planning and response to natural and man-made disasters and climate change in the road sector
• Social acceptance of risks and their perceptions in road-related activities

PIARC's Technical Committees A.3 "Risk Management" and E.3 "Disaster Management" bring together nearly 40 and 30 people respectively worldwide and are very active on the theme of road risk management. They have published several technical reports in recent years. The official language of this seminar will be English, and simultaneous translation to and from Vietnamese will be available during the seminar.
