Discover PIARC's new Strategic Theme Coordinators for the 2020 - 2023 work cycle

PIARC Technical Committees cover a wide range of topics including road safety, network operations, maintenance, finance, tunnels, governance, etc. They are structured in four Strategic Themes, each of these is led by a Strategic Theme Coordinator, who is a senior expert appointed by the Executive Committee.
They are responsible for the general coordination of the activities of the Association in their theme and for providing guidance to their Committees as well as ensuring regular communication with the Technical Committees. Strategic Theme Coordinators are also in charge of providing high-level guidance to the decision-making bodies of the Association so as to ensure that we keep abreast of emerging trends and needs.
Below we present the Strategic Theme Coordinators for the new work cycle 2020 - 2023. Each of them made himself available for a short video interview, which we conducted during the “Kick off meetings” that launched our work cycle:

Ernesto Barrera
Ernesto Barrera is a senior official of the Ministry of Public Works in Chile with a long history of cooperation with PIARC, serving for several cycles as member of PIARC Technical Committees. Ernesto was Strategic Theme Coordinator during the 2016-2019 cycle, and he has been appointed again to Coordinate Strategic Theme 1 “Road Administration”.

André Broto
André Broto is a senior director of a French motorway company with a long and deep involvement in PIARC and in the French National Committee. André has been Chair of the PIARC Technical Committee on mobility in urban regions in the cycles 2012-2015 and 2016-2019, as well as President of the PIARC French National Committee. He has been appointed to Coordinate Strategic Theme 2 “Mobility”.

Shigeru Kikukawa
Shigeru Kikukawa has developed a brilliant career inside the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan, holding the position of Vice Minister. Shigeru currently works for the private sector in Japan. He was Strategic Theme Coordinator during the 2016-2019 cycle, and he has been appointed again to Coordinate Strategic Theme 3 “Safety and Sustainability”.

Jürgen Krieger
Jürgen Krieger is a senior director at the German Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and he has a longstanding collaboration with PIARC. Jürgen was the Chair of the PIARC Technical Committee on resilience during the 2016-2019 cycle and he has been selected to coordinate Strategic Theme 4 “Resilient Infrastructure”.
