Editorial - Roadletter March/April 2023
Patrick Malléjacq
Secretary General of PIARC
At PIARC we organise numerous events, such as World Road Congresses, seminars in low- and middle-income countries, conferences such as SURF or our Tunnels Conference. They are great opportunities to compare experiences and best practice, and to engage with colleagues from the road sector.
Another of our activities is just as important: PIARC technical reports. They represent a key output for the international experts who work in our more than 20 Committees and Task Forces and who contribute so much of their time to our Association. Those reports constitute a goal that helps structure their activities and they are also an excellent way to share knowledge with a broader audience. Over the years, we have produced hundreds of reports; all of them are available for free from our website.
In this work cycle, we have introduced a broader variety: some of them are now collections of case studies, or literature reviews, for example. Our Committee have been extremely diligent, and more than 40 new reports are already published, which is a much higher delivery rate than in previous cycles. recent publications address Customer experience and public value creation, The use of big data for road condition monitoring, Greening of freight transport, Reducing the life cycle carbon footprint of pavements, Good practices in maintenance and traffic operation of heavily trafficked urban road tunnels, to name a few.
I invite you to check and use them, and to register to our World Road Congress in Prague, where they will be presented in depth.
