Term of the Road Dictionary

Marshall test

  • Definition : Standardized laboratory procedure to determine the resistance to viscous deformation and to failure of a hot asphalt mixture. Note: it is used for designing and testing mixtures, and consists of compacting cylindrical specimens dynamically in a steel mould at a given temperature and then subjecting them to a compression test in a special press at a given temperature. The parameters generally used to characterize the mixture are Marshall flow, stability and voids.

  • Definition : Ein Standard-Laborverfahren, um den Widerstand gegen viskose Verformungen und das Versagen eines heißen Asphaltgemisches zu bestimmen. Es wird zur Planung und Prüfung von Gemischen verwendet und besteht aus dynamisch in einer Stahlform bei einer festgelegten Temperatur verdichteten, zylindrischen Probekörpern, die einem Druckversuch in einer speziellen Presse bei einer bestimmten Temperatur unterworfen werden. Die Parameter, die allgemein zur Charakterisierung des Gemisches verwendet werden sind Marshall-Fließwert, Stabilität und Hohlräume.
