With regard to land transport, 92.98% of passenger transport occurs by road and 7.02% by rail. When it comes to freight transport, the percentage accounted for by road transport is even higher at 98.55%, with rail accounting for just 1.45%. To this end, Spain has an extensive road network with a length of 165,443 km, equating to a density of 332,243 km of roads for every 1,000 km2. The rail infrastructure is approximately one tenth of this size, with a density of 31,359 km per 1,000 km2. As a result, internal mobility primarily occurs by road.
