PIARC leads the way in gender inclusion on International Women in Engineering Day

Published on 20 June 2024

As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day on June 23rd, PIARC proudly showcases its commitment to gender inclusion and diversity within the road transport sector.

PIARC leads the way in gender inclusion on International Women in Engineering Day

Two years ago, PIARC established gender inclusion and diversity as a core value, forming the Promotion of Gender Inclusion and Diversity Team (PGIDT). This team is delivering three main priorities:

  • Raising awareness: educating PIARC members and the road transport community.
  • Creating an inclusive culture: fostering an inclusive environment within PIARC.
  • Reflecting diversity: ensuring PIARC's reports and products represent diverse road transport users.

PIARC highlights key initiatives such as gender inclusion training, webinars, technical reports, and articles in our Routes/Roads magazine. Addressing the differing needs and travel patterns of women and men, PIARC aims to integrate these insights into road policy and strategy.

Despite women comprising less than 20% of the global transport workforce, PIARC strives to balance gender representation across all levels of its organization.
