Join the global effort for carbon neutral roads: participate in our international survey!

New: Extended deadline: 16 September 2024

The PIARC Technical Committee 4.5. “Decarbonization of Road Construction and Road Maintenance” is excited to announce the launch of an international survey focused on decarbonizing road construction and maintenance. With climate change posing significant challenges, our goal is to gather insights and drive innovation towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the road sector.

Why this survey matters

The PIARC Strategic Plan 2024 – 2027 has highlighted the reduction of greenhouse gases from road activities as a critical global challenge. Following the findings of the 2023 special project “Carbon Neutrality of the Road Sector”, which identified both opportunities and barriers to achieving carbon neutrality, this survey aims to delve deeper into practical solutions and current practices.

Key focus areas

  • Low-carbon materials and sustainable practices: investigating the use of eco-friendly materials and construction methods.
  • Logistics and project management: assessing the planning, coordination, and logistical strategies to minimize carbon footprints.
  • Equipment and machinery: exploring opportunities to decarbonize construction equipment and related activities.

Who should participate?

The survey is open to everyone with an interest in the decarbonization of road infrastructure: PIARC members and partners, and we also encourage participation from the broader public and private sectors, including road users and managers.

Make your voice heard

Your input is crucial. By dedicating around 30 minutes to completing all or part of this survey, you will contribute to shaping a more sustainable future for our transportation systems. The deadline for responses is 2nd September 2024 (Extended deadline: 16 September 2024).
