Fostering global collaboration: Enhancing pavement resilience in the face of climate change
Published on 6 January 2025
Join PIARC’s Technical Committee 4.1 “Pavements” for an international seminar to be held in Tunis on 28-30 April 2025 in collaboration with the Tunisian Road Association and the Ministry of Equipment and Housing of Tunisia.
Focusing on resilience, the seminar will delve into adapting pavement engineering to the challenges posed by climate change. Additionally, PIARC's emphasis on reducing infrastructure's carbon footprint, a central theme for the 2024-2027 cycle, has led to the development of a report on carbon calculators for pavements and case studies highlighting strategies to minimize carbon emissions during pavement construction, both spearheaded by Technical Committee 4.1.
It is undeniable that the role of pavements in urban infrastructures is increasing in the view of heat island effects and the need to accommodate emerging modes of transportation and diverse road users. Therefore, the discussion during the seminar will revolve around the following major themes:
- Carbon footprint
- Low-cost pavement systems
- Big Data for pavements
- Resilient pavements
With the aim to share knowledge among various countries and regions on methods to improve pavements' resilience to the effects of climate change, this seminar spanning over two days targets engineers, managers, technical designers, road network managers, material suppliers, technical consultants, academics, and engineering students interested in pavement engineering.
