Road safety and sustainable mobility in rural and interurban areas: a case of Senegal

Taking place from 14 to 16 May 2025 in Dakar, the seminar is organized jointly by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport (MITTA) of Senegal and the Senegalese National Committee of PIARC, in collaboration with the Association of African Managers and Road Partners (AGEPAR). The event will be attended by the experts from the PIARC Technical Committees 2.2 “Roads for Equity, Accessibility and Mobility in Rural and Interurban Areas” and Technical Committee 3.1 “Road Safety”.

The general objective of this international seminar is to share knowledge and practices on roads and road transport, particularly in the areas of road safety and sustainable interurban mobility. The seminar will allow for knowledge sharing related to the two main themes among the experts involved.
The specific objectives of this seminar are to:
- Share road safety initiatives undertaken at country level;
- Share best practices and data collection tools relating to road safety;
- Present adapted strategies and programs to combat road insecurity;
- Present the "Ten Step Plan for Road Safety in Senegal", together with PIARC, the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) and the International Road Federation (IRF);
- Develop a capitalization document on road safety;
- Identify the main constraints on rural and interurban mobility;
- Present projects and programs for rural and urban opening up (transport infrastructure and services);
- Propose sustainable mobility solutions for rural and interurban areas.
The seminar is designed for administrative agents in charge of defining strategies and implementing actions related to road safety and sustainable interurban mobility. It is also intended for administrative and local authorities, the private sector (construction companies, design offices, inspection offices, investors), carriers, drivers and others road users, academics and researchers in the field of transport as well as students interested in transport in general.
Technical and financial partners, organizations and associations operating in the transport sector as well as NGOs are welcome to participate in this event.
